The Sweater Sampler – Week 4

Hi all,

Okay, so here are our meeting times adjusted for the additional 4 hours added to the class.

Sunday Class will meet an extra hour on Sunday, 1/24, changing it to 10am to 1pm and in addition we will meet Sunday, 1/31, 2pm to 5pm.

Tuesday Class will meet an extra hour on Tuesday, 1/26,changing it to 9am to 12 noon and in addition we will meet with the other class on Sunday, 1/31, 2pm to 5pm.

This section of the post is mostly for the Sundays Class that has already had week 3 of class…

I noticed knitters are in generally 3 different stages of their sampler:

First Stage – some of you have completed the Cardigan Border, including the button hole. Your homework is to knit on your Sweatshirt Pocket and see if you can’t do the exercise on the Bar Increases in Pairs on pages 38 and 39. If you are feeling adventuresome go onto the Stripes Section, otherwise make sure you read through the Raglan Seamline Decreases pages 42 through 46.

Second Stage – some of you hadn’t completed the Cardigan Border, including the button hole by this last class we had, but want to work on it this week. Your homework is to do that as well as to knit on your Sweatshirt Pocket and see if you can’t do the exercise on the Bar Increases in Pairs on pages 38 and 39. Again, if you are feeling adventuresome go onto the Stripes Section, otherwise make sure you read through the Raglan Seamline Decreases pages 42 through 46.

Third Stage – some of you hadn’t completed the Cardigan Border, including the button hole by this last class we had on Sunday. If you are not interested in doing it, for what ever reason!:), just make sure you have enough stockinette stitch knitted to be able to do your homework – knit on your Sweatshirt Pocket and see if you can’t do the exercise on the Bar Increases in Pairs on pages 38 and 39. Again, if you are feeling adventuresome go onto the Stripes Section, otherwise make sure you read through the Raglan Seamline Decreases pages 42 through 46.

My suggestion for what we will cover in week 4 and 5 of class – for Week Four: Raglan Seamline Decrease, demos of Stripes, two-color knitting and Swiss Darning; and for Week Five: The knitted Cord, Lacing Around, The knitted Belt, the knitted Cord Cast-Off and the Cast-Off in Ribbing. I may end up demo-ing some of the above (because you all “get it no problem” )and you doing some of the above depending on interest, time constraint, etc. We also have the Initialed Hem and the Afterthought Pocket – including the Kitchener Stitch on our list. It’s all great stuff. Please give feed back as to what you definitely want to see covered and I’ll work with that. No worries.

My brain is a little bit fuzzy from this cold I am working – I know I didn’t cover prep for the Basic Sweater Class. Give me a day or so to think about it while laying low to mend this cold and I’ll do another post. In the meantime give me your feed back – what techniques on the sampler caught your eye the first time you saw it – a sort of “wow, I’d feel cool if I new how to knit that!”

I’ll see most of you on Friday. Until then, happy knitting in a chair of your own, Jessica
