Beginning Knitting – Week 2

Greeting Beginning Knitters,

I just wanted to say again how nice it is to assist you in the process of building your knitting skills. To glance over to see one of you quietly purling, another confidently doing a long tail cast-on, another beginning to “read” the stitches rolling off her needles, and more. Very exciting.

In class this week we reviewed the long tail cast-on; why and how the fabric is seemingly growing wider – this has to do with how you are knitting the first stitch on each row – remember to allow the yarn to dangle in front; how to orient yourself correctly when you come back to your knitting mid-row; short rows, etc. We also discussed the basic requirements for one’s favorite knitting “space”.

We practiced purling and I demonstrated casting off knit-wise.
