Design Retreat Weekend with Shirley Paden!

Join us for a Design Retreat Weekend with knitting instructor extraordinaire Shirley Paden! Author of the fabulous Knitwear Design Workshop: The Comprehensive Guide to Handknits,

We will meet at the Gables Wine Country Inn Friday, May 13th 2 pm to 7:30 pm, Saturday, May 14th 10:30 am to 5:30 pm and Sunday, May 15th 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Oh yes! The details… Shirley says:In this class students learn to custom-make their own sweater patterns. They will work through organizing the components involved in constructing three different types of garments and 2 different types of necklines. One garment is designed with a round neckline and two with V necklines. The first is a pullover designed using the Classic Body silhouette that is based on the bust measurements.  It is worked straight to the armholes; then the armholes and neckline are shaped. The second is also a pullover.  It is designed using the Double Tapered Body silhouette.  This sweater type is shaped along the natural curves of the body to the armholes; then the armholes and neckline are shaped.  The third design is a cardigan.  It is designed using the Reverse Taper Body silhouette. This garment shape is trapezoidal.  It is wider at the bottom than at the top.  It is tapered along the sides from the bottom measurement to the bust measurement; then the armholes and neckline are shaped.  All 3 designs will be planned with set-in sleeves.  Students will work through planning a tapered sleeve with a set-in cap.  They will also be walked through accurately measuring a swatch, taking body measurements, writing a pattern, and calculating yarn amounts.  Measuring a garment will also be reviewed.” The final four hours on Sunday will be on Finishing Techniques!
